An exclusive interview with Ugochi Iwuaba, the visionary behind this extraordinary showcase, delves into the inspiration, the cultural fusion,  and the philanthropic endeavors that define this monumental event set to take place on July 6, 2024.

Journey to “RUNWAY 40”: A Dream Realized

The genesis of “RUNWAY 40” finds its roots in Ugochi Iwaba’s remarkable journey from Nigeria to America, a journey propelled by dreams and passion. Ugochi’s odyssey, intertwined with her pursuit of becoming a fashion designer, culminates in realizing this milestone event as she celebrates turning 40. Reflecting on her transformative voyage, Ugochi shares, “I’ve actualized my dreams of becoming a  fashion designer and all the wonderful journey that this dream has taken me on.”

Cultural Fusion in Design

The essence of San Diego’s tranquility merges seamlessly with the vibrant spirit of Nigeria in Ugochi’s designs, encapsulating the fusion of two distinct cultures. “I fuse both cultures,” Ugochi explains, “bringing the flamboyance of Lagos, Nigeria, and the serenity of San Diego, California, into each design.” Bold yet wearable, her creations epitomize this harmonious blend, capturing the essence of both worlds.

The Runway Experience: A Journey Unfolds

Attendees of the Fashion Runway 40 can anticipate an immersive experience akin to embarking on a global journey. Each ensemble in Ugochi’s collection narrates a story, weaving together cultural motifs from diverse destinations. “From San Diego back to Nigeria,” Ugochi describes, “the runway will traverse continents, showcasing fabrics and inspirations from Lagos, India, Turkey, and beyond.” The runway spectacle promises to be a sensory voyage with surprises and cultural revelations.

Central to Ugochi’s vision for “RUNWAY 40” is a commitment to philanthropy and female empowerment. Through partnerships with the Down Syndrome Association and the San Diego Women’s Foundation, Ugochi aims to uplift and inspire. “Supporting these causes is personal to me,” she shares, “as my journey as a designer was catalyzed by my son, who has Down syndrome, and my own experiences as a woman navigating the world of fashion.”

Looking Ahead: Evolution and Expansion

As “RUNWAY 40” marks a pivotal moment in Ugochi’s career, she looks toward the future with optimism and ambition. With plans to launch a jewelry line and expand her ready-to-wear collection, Ugochi envisions her brand reaching new heights of global recognition. “The sky’s the limit,” she asserts, “and I’m determined to make fashion  accessible to all, empowering individuals to embrace their unique style.”

Venue: San Diego Air and Space Museum

The choice of venue for Fashion Runway 40, the San Diego Air and Space Museum, holds special significance in Ugochi’s narrative. “It’s a journey that I embarked on, a flight of dreams,” she explains. Against the backdrop of historic aircraft and tales of exploration, the venue encapsulates the essence of the event, symbolizing the journey of dreams taking flight.

As Fashion Runway 40 approaches, anticipation mounts for an event that promises to transcend fashion, celebrating culture, empowerment, and the indomitable spirit of a visionary designer, with each stride down the runway, Ugochi Iwuaba invites us to join her on a voyage of discovery, where dreams know no bounds, and the runway becomes a canvas for storytelling and empowerment.
