Celebrating Five Years of Inspiring Ideas

TEDxSouthlake is gearing up for its Sixth annual event on November 9, 2025, at the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas. This year’s theme, “Written Together: Ideas Among Us,” focuses on the transformative power of human connections and how collaboration can ignite new ways of thinking.

Event organizers Uma S. Devireddy and Rayna Marthi are dedicated to building on a tradition of showcasing ideas that inspire meaningful conversations and action within the community.

Creating a Constellation, Not Just Stars

In an interview with the TEDxSouthlake team, Director of Marketing and Communications Anamika Gupta emphasized the spirit of collaboration and community at the heart of this year’s theme.

“The TEDx platform is about bringing forward that one powerful idea or story that resonates deeply,” Gupta explained. “But we don’t just want to create stars; we want to create a constellation. The real power comes from collective innovation, from multiple people coming together, sparking ideas, and creating something bigger.”

Sheryl Raphael Whitaker, Director of Curation for TEDxSouthlake, echoed Gupta’s sentiments. “We live in a time when AI is everywhere, but there’s something unique that happens when humans connect, collaborate, and inspire each other face-to-face,” Whitaker added. “Our goal is to capture and share these moments that spark fresh thinking and new perspectives.”

Origin and Growth of TEDxSouthlake

TEDxSouthlake began in 2020, founded by Uma Devireddy, who initially created the event as a platform to help young people overcome their fear of public speaking. What started as a small initiative to empower youth quickly blossomed into a broader movement, now welcoming diverse voices, including professionals and community leaders from various backgrounds.

“It started with Uma’s vision and personal story,” Gupta noted. “Now, five years later, TEDxSouthlake has grown into an inclusive community event, providing a platform for stories that inspire action and transform lives.”

A Unique Multi-Generational Approach

One distinctive aspect of TEDxSouthlake is its multi-generational board of organizers. The team intentionally includes young members, some as young as eighth graders, who actively contribute to organizing and marketing the event. Gupta highlighted how valuable this approach has been.

“My own daughter is on the board, and I constantly learn from her and her peers,” Gupta said. “These young team members bring fresh perspectives, challenging our assumptions and keeping us tuned into the needs and interests of a broader audience.”

Whitaker agreed, saying this intergenerational approach creates richer, more dynamic discussions and, ultimately, a better event. “Our young board members aren’t just observers; they’re decision-makers. They bring insights we might overlook, making TEDxSouthlake uniquely inclusive.”

The Venue: An Experience in Itself

This year’s TEDxSouthlake will take place at Dallas’s renowned Frontiers of Flight Museum. The choice of venue was intentional—selected to provide attendees not only with thought-provoking talks but an immersive and memorable environment.

Gupta, who has experience hosting other major events at the venue, shared her enthusiasm. “It’s an amazing space that naturally sparks curiosity and creativity. We believe the atmosphere will enhance the overall TEDx experience.”

Not Just an Event, But a Transformational Experience

Gupta emphasized that TEDxSouthlake is about more than just attendance; it’s about genuine engagement and transformation.

“We want people not just to be physically present but mentally and emotionally engaged,” she explained. “Our hope is that attendees will leave feeling deeply impacted, ready to share their own stories, and perhaps inspired enough to become speakers themselves in the future.”

Following the main event, attendees will have a chance to connect directly with speakers at the After Glow Party, fostering deeper conversations and continued networking.

Building on Past Successes

TEDxSouthlake has already seen numerous examples of life-changing transformations from previous years. Speakers have gone on to author books, launch community initiatives, and profoundly influence others with their TEDx messages.

Whitaker stressed that this impact is exactly what drives their team’s continued dedication. “We’ve witnessed firsthand how powerful a TEDx stage can be. It’s truly remarkable to see the ripple effect that comes from these ideas worth spreading.”

Open Invitation to the Community

The TEDxSouthlake team invites the community to actively participate—either as audience members, potential speakers, or volunteers. Applications to speak at this year’s event are open now on the official website, offering a platform for anyone with a powerful idea aligned with this year’s collaborative theme.

“We encourage people to step forward,” Whitaker concluded. “If you have an idea that’s worth sharing, we want to hear from you. The TEDx stage belongs to the community, and together, we create something extraordinary.”
