New Zealand’s agricultural biotechnology company, Lucidome Bio, has been selected as one of just fourteen global finalists to present at the Animal Health, Nutrition and Technology Innovation USA event this week in Boston. This prestigious opportunity enables Lucidome Bio to showcase its world-first methane-reducing vaccine on an international platform.

The Innovation Showcase is a premier global event for breakthrough companies in animal health and agtech to present game-changing innovations. It attracts a live audience of industry leaders, investors, and collaborators who vote for the most promising ventures expected to shape agriculture in 2025.

Lucidome Bio’s pioneering vaccine has been hailed as a potential ‘holy grail’ for climate action in agriculture—a low-cost, high-impact and scalable, science-backed, globally relevant solution designed to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from livestock.

How It Works: Microbiome Meets Methane

The vaccine is designed to stimulate an animal’s immune system to produce antibodies in saliva that may help target methane-producing microbes, called methanogens, in the rumen. These microbes are believed to be a significant source of methane emitted through livestock burps, which can contribute meaningfully to climate change. This process has the potential to impact ecosystems, play a role in accelerating global warming, and pose challenges to food system resilience.

From Research to Reality: Bringing the Vaccine to Farmers

Lucidome Bio was founded by AgriZeroNZ with support from the New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Centre and the New Zealand government. The company aims to accelerate commercialization of this breakthrough by bringing together New Zealand’s intellectual property, scientific talent, and funding under one high-growth venture. It continues to collaborate closely with AgResearch, which has seconded leading scientists into the business and provides access to research facilities. The Pastoral Greenhouse Gas Research Consortium remains a shareholder alongside AgriZeroNZ.
