HR Expert and Fulcrum HR Consulting CEO Kelly Kubicek is way ahead of her time when it comes to emerging ideas and practices in Human Resource Management. The Fulcrum HR Consulting founder has nearly two decades of experience under her belt, making her instrumental in the significant shift in HR in general when it transformed the industry into a more welcoming, transparent, diverse, and inclusive space. This remarkable transformation is a far cry from the HR departments that past generations have come to know – stern-looking staff members ready to issue a summons for a potent offense. Kubicek was one of those who strongly advocated for encouraging employees instead of antagonizing them and practicing accountability, whatever their positions may be in the organization. 

Apart from being a strategic and highly skilled leader, Kubicek mastered the value of adding the human touch to employees’ experiences within an organization. Along with her consultants, Kubicek was asked to consolidate 17 departments of state employees, the number of employees reaching 9,000. The main task was to streamline everyone into a single system. 

The new system’s objective is to prepare for implementing a new payroll system that will get rid of workarounds that have been plaguing Nebraska for many years. What most people thought would be impossible for Kubicek to do, she was able to complete in 12 months. As a result, Nebraska saved thousands of dollars in salaries and administrative costs, allowing the state to realign funds to areas where they were needed most.

Having accomplished so much in the public sector, Kubicek is now turning her attention to bringing the same innovations and efficiency to many private organizations. Just recently, she was invited to the highly prestigious Forbes Council, an invite-only business organization that gives C-suite executives and successful entrepreneurs the opportunity to share their skills, learn, and network. As can be expected of her, she was able to publish five articles related to HR topics in a short time since she became a member. 

Kubicek continues to be a productive force to be reckoned with despite her health struggle after having a malignant tumor removed and undergoing chemotherapy. She mustered the courage and strength to balance her personal life and recovery with her professional life, an attribute that many of her colleagues admire about her. Despite her health issue, she still found a way to use it to encourage others, saying, “You never know what someone else is going through, so treat them with care, respect, and an open mind,” she said.
