The artist’s exposure to music started at an early age when he started playing drums when he was just two years old. As he recalls, “my dad was a drummer and as a kid I’d sit at his feet at church and study his fills & pocket”. Years later, he’s become a seasoned and well-rounded drummer, pianist, guitarist and string arranger. This well-roundedness contributes to his expertise and is helpful in music directing and putting his live shows together. With a significant number of Spotify listeners and an impressive live experience, HYLYND is showing the world he is a versatile artist with the spirit of the 90s and a mind from 2030.
HYLYND is currently working and co-producing music with Grammy-nominated King Michael Coy (Dr. Dre, H.E.R., Anderson Paak) and Jon Santana. With his upcoming EP, he is exploring darker R&B textures, gospel vocal stacks, string arrangements and saxophone solos.. HYLYND has a comprehensive set of musical influences that range from well-known pop icons such as Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey to rock legends Led Zeppelin, Queen. This exposure gave birth to HYLYND’s DNA of creating timeless songs. When asked how he arrived at his current mindset and disposition towards songwriting, he said of his generation, “Our world shifted dramatically and suddenly. That widened our scope and challenged us to grow, our capacity is large. We think and act quickly but have old and present souls. My music is made for these people.”
