On April 26, 2025, Yuling Wang participated in a promotional event at the British International School in Nanjing, showcasing the growing global enthusiasm for learning Chinese. While the event highlighted the increasing demand for cross-cultural education, Wang’s influence stretches far beyond a single afternoon. Her real legacy lies in her years of dedication to Chinese language education in the United States, where she has touched the lives of countless students and built bridges between cultures.
“I have a deep love for my students and a heartfelt passion for teaching Chinese. Every student who steps into my classroom is not just learning a language — they are opening the door to a new world. Over the years, I have watched many of them use their Chinese skills to build new friendships, seize new career opportunities, and develop a broader view of life. Seeing their growth is the greatest reward and inspiration for me.” Shared by Wang.
After several years teaching Chinese language and literature in China’s public schools, Wang transitioned into teaching Chinese as a second language, joining the prestigious the Bridge School in Beijing. There, she taught business executives, diplomats, embassy staff from Canada and Sweden and expatriates from major multinational corporations such as DaimlerChrysler, SK, Alstom, and Airbus, developing innovative methods to meet the unique needs of her diverse students.
To further her expertise, Wang pursued a master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other languages at Peking University—one of China’s top academic institutions. During her graduate studies, she participated in several prominent teaching projects, instructing students from elite universities such as Duke, Yale, Waseda, and Keio, and gaining valuable experience in managing classes, assessments, and cultural programming.
In 2016, Wang’s career took an international turn when she was selected by Hanban (known as the Office of Chinese Language Council International, a national agency under China’s Ministry of Education.) to become a government-sponsored Chinese teacher at the Confucius Institute. She was assigned to Tennessee, where she taught Chinese language and culture at four elementary schools under the Murfreesboro City Schools system.
“Teaching in Tennessee was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” Wang recalled. “I wanted students to not just learn language, but to feel the richness of Chinese culture.”
She introduced engaging, hands-on methods in the classroom—incorporating singing, calligraphy, Tai Chi, and even Chinese holiday celebrations. By collaborating with teachers across different subjects, Wang helped weave Chinese culture into areas like art, music, and social studies, making Chinese language learning a lively, integrated part of students’ daily experiences.
Beyond her classroom work, Wang organized cultural events that drew wide community participation. Lunar New Year festivals, calligraphy exhibitions, and martial arts demonstrations introduced local families to Chinese traditions in a vivid and memorable way. Her creative teaching strategies and outreach earned her honors, including the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Confucius Institute Headquarters.
Wang’s influence didn’t stop there. Since 2014, she has also worked with Global LT, a leading international language education company based in Michigan. There, she has provided one-on-one Chinese lessons to expatriates and their families across the globe, tailoring her teaching to suit the varied cultural and professional backgrounds of her students.
In 2020, Wang took a major step toward realizing her broader vision by co-founding Aikamet Language School in Nanjing. As Director of Chinese Language Programs, she now oversees curriculum development, teaching quality, and cultural programming, leading her team to create immersive learning experiences that blend rigorous language study with rich cultural exploration. Meanwhile, Wang is actively exploring and trying to integrate AI technology into Chinese teaching, and is committed to creating a more advanced and efficient Chinese teaching model.
“Language opens a window to another world,” she reflected. “It teaches us empathy, respect, and curiosity. Through teaching Chinese, I hope to help my students build those bridges, wherever they go.”
From the classrooms of Tennessee to the language centers of China, Yuling Wang’s story is a testament to the power of education to unite cultures—and to one educator’s lifelong dedication to making that connection possible.
