Boutique hotels across US markets are joining From Where’s curated directory, gaining access to a platform that converts guest design inquiries into commission revenue through shoppable storefronts.
The model addresses a consistent guest behavior pattern: travelers staying in well-designed properties frequently ask about furniture, bedding, and decor sources, indicating purchase interest that follows real-world product experience during multi-day stays.
Curated Selection Process
From Where applies defined criteria to directory inclusion. Properties must operate under 100 rooms, demonstrate design that meaningfully departs from traditional chain hotel aesthetics, and maintain strong review ratings across Google, Yelp, and major booking platforms.
The goal is to do the evaluation work before guests ever start searching. “We spend significant effort identifying the best boutique hotels in each city,” said co-founder Nisha Franklin. “Instead of guests having to look through a laundry list of options, we’ve already curated that list.”
How Guest Inquiries Shaped the Model
The boutique hotel initiative grew out of patterns From Where identified in its short-term rental network. Guests consistently asked about product sources after experiencing items during stays, particularly for higher-value purchases like mattresses and furniture.
“Guests see products in context and understand how they function and feel in real spaces,” Franklin said. “They’ve essentially test-driven items during their stay.”
Boutique hotels are particularly well-suited to this model. They maintain more consistent occupancy than individual rentals, creating steady traffic from design-conscious travelers who chose the property specifically for its aesthetic.
Annual Storefront Access
Boutique hotels can join From Where’s Shop the Spaceâ„¢ platform for an annual fee. The platform handles storefront setup, identification of featured products, and transaction management, with no requirement for property staff to manage e-commerce operations. When guests purchase featured products through the hotel’s storefront, the property earns commission.
The digital approach eliminates traditional retail requirements, physical space, inventory management, and dedicated staffing, while generating returns on design investments properties have already made. Rather than those investments producing value only through room rates, properties earn additional revenue when guests want to buy what they experienced during their stay.
Best Boutique Hotel Recognition
Selected properties receive From Where’s Best Boutique Hotel designation, which provides marketing recognition. The designation is independent of storefront participation and is not required for a property to join From Where’s shoppable storefront platform. The designation signals to travelers that a property has met From Where’s standards for design quality and operational performance.
From Where is actively expanding the directory across US markets, with priority given to cities that have established tourism infrastructure. Properties can register for consideration at fromwhere.com, where the platform reviews submitted photos and evaluates properties against its qualification criteria.
The boutique hotel network joins From Where’s existing short-term rental and interior designer storefronts, creating a marketplace where hospitality properties, design professionals, and product brands collaborate on shoppable guest experiences.
