In a world bustling with individual commitments and digital distractions, there’s a timeless value in families spending quality time together. However, it can be challenging to schedule in these moments, especially when there needs to be time at home without going over budget for daily activities. That’s why you’ll want to read about these seven affordable activities that will foster your need for quality family time:

1. Washing the Car

Washing the car as a family activity?! This can be great fun for families, especially on a hot day. Grab your bathing suits and get to washing the car. You don’t need any fancy equipment. Simple soap and a hose will do. Who knows?! It could lead to a water fight, which is great fun with kids. You could even make up an imaginary car wash if you have younger kids. The kids present the services, you “pay” for the services, and the kids get excited to help out while acting out as car wash workers.

2. Family Picnic

Skip the same boring dinner routine and get outside. The kids can help with planning the meals, sides, and drinks. Pack it all up and head to your favorite park, or set up a picnic area outside in the backyard. The switch-up can excite your dinner routine and create many lasting memories. Bring any outdoor fun your family enjoys, such as a soccer ball, bubbles, or frisbee.

3. Game Night

A classic game night is fun. You can make it even more exciting by picking up a new game. This doesn’t have to be costly as most public libraries will have family games you can check out, most likely in the kid’s section. You could even have the kids choose their favorites and play them all.

4. Movie Night

Another classic is family movie night. You can make this more fun by setting it up outside on a projector! You could even bring the projector into your trampoline, if you have one, and set up the trampoline to be a big, cozy bed for the family. Consider making it a themed movie night if you want to keep it indoors. Choose foods that go well with the movie you’re watching and set up a concession stand, maybe even with some fake money the kids can use to purchase their favorite candy.

5. Backyard Camping

Backyard camping is great fun because it takes away from the same boring bedtime routine. Pitch a tent, roast some marshmallows in the backyard, and get ready to settle down in your sleeping bags for the night.

6. Puzzles

Putting a puzzle together is a great way for families to bond. It encourages collaboration, creates an opportunity for conversation, and allows your family to achieve something together.

7. Scavenger Hunt

Do you have a store you need to run into for something quick? Consider making it into a scavenger hunt for the family. Make a list of items you know can be found in this store and complete it together, or make it a competition where you split into teams or do it individually. Set a time to complete the hunt and set a meet-up place to see who won. Just remember to grab whatever you need before you leave.

Good family bonding cannot be replaced. These seven activities are sure to bring some fun, quality family time into your life.
