San Francisco, CA – October 2024 – Xinyue Cheng, a distinguished product designer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, has made a significant mark on the design landscape with her innovative approach to UX/UI design. With extensive experience across healthcare, technology, and interactive media, Xinyue has consistently delivered transformative user experiences. One of her notable contributions is her work on TangiBand, an award-winning music education app that blends cutting-edge technology with an intuitive and playful learning platform for children.
Xinyue’s career in design has been shaped by a deep commitment to enhancing user interactions through human-centered design, research-driven solutions, and technological innovation. With a Master of Science in Human-Computer Interaction from the University of Michigan, she began building a foundation for understanding the intersection between technology and human behavior.
Her first major role was as a Product Designer at Lark Health, where she worked from 2019 to 2024. During her time at Lark, Xinyue pioneered the integration of generative AI into the Lark app, revolutionizing diet tracking and nutrition coaching. This project not only enhanced user engagement but also transformed how users accessed personalized health advice. She also led a major redesign of Lark’s patient enrollment experience, increasing conversion rates and contributing to a million-dollar revenue boost for the company.
Xinyue’s work at Lark was characterized by her ability to drive collaboration across design and engineering teams. She established the Lark web design system, which streamlined design guidelines and development processes, improving consistency and efficiency across the platform. Her UI and interaction design updates further boosted user engagement, illustrating her capacity to deliver impactful, data-driven design solutions.
Beyond her work at Lark, Xinyue’s career includes key internships that honed her skills in interaction design and user experience. At Wildblue Technologies in 2018, she designed strategies to improve sales retention on a retail website through market research and user interaction insights. She also led the creation of an augmented reality (AR) experience for a leading chocolate manufacturer, demonstrating her ability to merge creativity with emerging technologies to enhance user engagement. At iFlytek in 2017, Xinyue improved the interface and interaction of the iFLYTEK Voice Input app, benefiting millions of active users.
However, one of Xinyue’s most celebrated projects is her contribution to TangiBand, a gamified music education app designed to empower children to learn music through play. This innovative product leverages Augmented Reality (AR) and AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) technology to offer an intuitive and inspiring way for children to explore music. With TangiBand, children can use blocks to build different forms, assign sonic qualities to them, and compose their own music pieces by assembling these forms as musical components.
What sets TangiBand apart is its accessibility and inclusivity. The app eliminates the need for traditional musical instruments, making music education available to children in various conditions and environments. Whether at home, in a classroom, or on the go, children can learn and enjoy music in a way that feels natural, playful, and inspiring. This democratization of music education ensures that children from all backgrounds have the opportunity to express their creativity and engage with music.
The brilliance of TangiBand lies in its ability to bridge technology and education in a way that feels both engaging and educational. By allowing children to interact with music in a tactile, visual, and auditory way, TangiBand creates a holistic learning experience that encourages exploration and creativity. It’s a project that truly embodies Xinyue’s design philosophy: to use technology as a tool to enhance human potential and make meaningful connections between people and the products they use.
TangiBand has garnered significant recognition for its innovative approach to music education, winning prestigious awards such as the 2023 MUSE Award and the 2022 Creative Communication Award. Xinyue’s contributions to the project underscore her expertise in integrating emerging technologies with user-centered design principles, delivering products that not only function seamlessly but also bring joy and learning to users.
Xinyue’s design skills go beyond user interface and interaction design. Her ability to manage cross-functional teams, collaborate with stakeholders, and drive strategic design solutions has made her a standout professional in the design industry. Whether it’s designing for health tech at Lark or creating inclusive educational tools like TangiBand, Xinyue is dedicated to crafting experiences that improve lives.
As Xinyue continues her design journey, her ability to fuse technology, creativity, and empathy ensures that her work will have a lasting impact on the design world. Her contributions to product design have not only pushed the boundaries of what’s possible but have also redefined how users engage with technology in meaningful, enriching ways.
