Why Do Companies Continue Investing in Green Energy?

Renewable energy is the most important source of fuel for our planet. It’s a source that can be replenished naturally, such as wind or solar power. Renewable energy doesn’t pollute the environment and doesn’t cause global warming as fossil fuels do, so it’s better for everyone if we use renewable sources instead of non-renewable ones.

Companies that use renewable energy sources do their part to help the environment, but it’s also good for them. This is because renewable energy is cheaper than non-renewable energy, so companies can save money using it.

Companies Are Implementing Green Energy

According to industry experts, 2023 is set to be a groundbreaking year for renewable energy, with top companies worldwide making significant strides toward embracing sustainable power sources.

A recent report revealed that several major corporations are committed to increasing their use of renewable energy in the coming years, with plans to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner, greener future.

According to the Clean200 list of the most environmentally-friendly companies in the world, many of these companies are already making significant strides toward reducing their carbon footprint and embracing renewable energy sources. It was revealed that over half of all companies on the list have already set ambitious goals, including increasing their use of clean power generation!

The top environmentally conscious companies in 2023, according to the Clean200 list, include:

  • United States: 42 companies, including Tesla, General Motors Company, and NextEra Energy Inc.
  • China: 21 companies, including BYD Company, China Longyuan Power Group Corporation, and China Datang Corporation Renewable Power.
  • Japan: 16 companies, including Panasonic Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Sumitomo Corporation.
  • Canada: 18 companies, including Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P., Innergex Renewable Energy Inc., and TransAlta Corporation.

Sustainable Companies Have Higher ROI

Sustainable companies are more profitable than their non-sustainable counterparts. A recent study found that companies focusing on sustainability generate higher returns on investment, with lower risks and greater growth opportunities.

The report predicted that those businesses that embrace sustainable practices would outperform the broader market by 2023.

Investors are taking notice and investing in companies with sustainability at the core of their business model. The number of sustainable companies listed on stock exchanges has increased more than five times since 2000.

According to Corporate Knights Research, companies investing in green technology generate an average of 58% clean energy revenue, and the investment community is beginning to notice.

The report predicted businesses embracing sustainable practices would outperform the broader market in 2023. Which led to the question: how to become a sustainable company?

How to Become a Sustainable Company?

In the progression of sustainability, companies can become more sustainable by taking a few steps. These include:

  • Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle: Incorporate a waste management system that prioritizes reducing waste, reusing materials, and recycling whenever possible.
  • Use Sustainable Materials: Choose materials with a lower environmental impact, such as recycled materials, biodegradable materials, or sustainable forestry products.
  • Implement Energy-Efficient Practices: Use energy-efficient equipment, install LED lighting, and practice energy conservation by turning off equipment when not in use.
  • Implement Remote Work Set-up: The average commute of a single worker in a week is 24 miles. Consider allowing employees to work remotely, which can help reduce the environmental impact of commuting and increase productivity.
  • Switch to Renewable Energy: Reducing your reliance on fossil fuels can be accomplished by using renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.
  • Offer Sustainable Products or Services: Develop sustainable products or services that are environmentally friendly and meet your customers’ needs.

Making the Switch to a Green Office

Deciding to switch to a green office can be challenging, but it’s worth the effort. The commitment to using green technology and sustainable materials will benefit your employees, customers, and the environment. It is not a matter of “if” you should make the switch but “when.”
