In today’s world, where stress and burnout are all too common, a fulfilling life often feels elusive. Many people find themselves stuck in jobs or situations that no longer bring them joy, especially those in creative fields. Emily Taradash offers the refreshing antidote of laughter for those who have become too entangled in their concerns and have forgotten how to play.
Emily Taradash, a life coach, stand-up comic, and artist, has a uniquely fun approach to helping her clients break free from the constraints of their current lives. With a background in theatre and costume design, Emily has always been drawn to storytelling; but it wasn’t until she transitioned into life coaching that she fully realized the power of humor in transforming lives.
From Life Coach to Stand-Up Comic
Having carved out a name for herself in the Rhode Island comedy scene, and then recently relocating to Kansas City, Emily has kept the laughs coming. It’s all part of her inspiring journey from life coach to stand-up comic.
She began her career in the arts, working as a costume designer and stylist for over 100 live shows. Her work involved helping actors embody their characters through their costumes, but she quickly realized that her true passion lay in helping people shift their personal beliefs and live more authentic lives.
“My sense of humor has always been a source of joy and inspiration, but unfortunately, not all of the directors I worked with as a costume designer believed in the power of a good sight gag,” Emily explains. “I found that humor was a way to draw in the community and instantly disarm people. It’s a gentle kind of humor, and it’s incredibly powerful in helping people lighten up and surrender when things feel too tight.”
Emily’s life coaching practice naturally led her to comedy. As she worked with clients who were often very serious and burdened by life’s challenges, she realized that laughter was the key to helping them soften and see things from a different perspective. This insight inspired her to take the stage herself and share her observations with a broader audience.
The Intersection of Coaching and Comedy
What sets Emily apart from other life coaches is how she seamlessly integrates comedy into her coaching practice. For Emily, humor is not just a tool for entertainment; it’s a powerful alchemist of suffering and a way to release shame. “Shame cannot survive out in the open,” Emily says.
“When we talk about what happened to us without fearing the judgment of others, we are free.
And when we’re free, we inspire others to make big moves in their lives—whether it’s taking risks, picking up a mic, quitting a job they hate, or breaking up with someone who isn’t on the same path.”
Emily’s stand-up comedy is informed by her coaching. She writes observationally about her own lived experiences, but she does so with a gentle touch. Rather than using the stage to unload or vent, Emily shares moments that might otherwise be embarrassing or shameful, creating a space where her audience can laugh, relate, and feel understood.
“Laughter is an instant surrender,” Emily says. “For many people who seek coaching, it’s the gentle nudge they need to see things differently. Humor helps them to relax, be in the moment, and embrace the idea that they are enough just as they are.”
Coaching Programs that Inspire Change
Emily’s coaching programs are designed to help clients rediscover their joy, creativity, and confidence. Offering 6-month cohorts in goal growth—whether personal, professional, or creative—Emily works closely with her clients to help them achieve their aspirations. Her coaching focuses on three key areas: self-awareness, authenticity, and actionable steps towards change.
“In my coaching practice, I’ve found that people often come to me because they feel stuck,” Emily shares. “They’ve done all the right things, followed the expected paths, but still feel unfulfilled. My job is to help them see that they can shift gears at any point in their lives. It’s never too late to pursue a new passion or make a significant life change.”
One of the unique aspects of Emily’s coaching is her ability to blend humor with deep, transformational work. She uses her comedic background to create a lighthearted atmosphere where clients feel safe to explore their fears and dreams. “Laughter is a great equalizer,” Emily says. “It breaks down barriers and allows people to open up in ways they might not have thought possible.”
Emily’s clients have praised her for helping them make bold moves in their lives. Whether it’s quitting a job that no longer serves them, starting a new business, or simply learning to find joy in the everyday, Emily’s coaching has had a profound impact on those she works with.
Anecdotes and Experiences: Learning from Life’s Detours
Emily’s path to success hasn’t been without its challenges. She openly shares her own struggles with overcoming self-doubt and societal expectations. “I’ve overcome myself, mostly,” she says. “You hear ‘no’ a lot as a coach and as an artist, so shifting into a belief that every ‘no’ is one step closer to the ‘yes’ that will get you into the room you’re meant to be in was crucial for me.”
She also talks about the importance of embracing the unexpected detours in life. “I’ve done a bunch of side quests,” Emily laughs. “I got married, got out of shape, got distracted, and even tried doing drag as a teacher for a few years. But all of those experiences have shaped who I am today and have given me a wealth of material for both my coaching and my comedy.”
Emily’s ability to laugh at herself and her experiences is what makes her so relatable to her clients and audiences. She emphasizes that life isn’t about following a straight path; it’s about embracing the twists and turns, learning from them, and using them to fuel your growth.
Inspiring Big Moves and Bold Choices
Emily’s message is clear: you’re never too old to shift into a new career or pursue a passion. You know enough, and you are enough, as you are. Her life coaching and comedy both encourage people to follow their muse, not for the sake of pleasing others, but for their own enjoyment and fulfillment.
“Seeing someone in their joy and truth gives us permission to want it and pursue it for ourselves,” Emily explains. “Whether it’s through coaching or comedy, my goal is to help people take risks, embrace their authenticity, and live lives that bring them joy.”
As Emily celebrates three years in business, she continues to inspire her clients and audiences alike.
With upcoming events, including the “New Kids on the Block” comedy show at the Levee in Kansas City on September 20th and a partnership with Arlin Pacheco and TourKansasCity for a live in-person event at Vignette’s on October 6th, Emily is making her mark as a life coach and comedian who knows that laughter truly is the best medicine.
