Newly founded LoL Hospitality Group, by the owners of award-winning café concept, The Modern Rose, is heating up this summer. 

“LoL”, which stands for Labor of Love, provides a simple and all-encompassing description of the group’s approach: they lead a team where the only requirements are integrity, hard-work, respect, and timeliness; everything else can be trained. With new Modern Rose locations on the immediate horizon in the Ft. Lauderdale area, including one with a full liquor bar, the group is also poised to launch three new concepts this year – a modern açaí approach, a quirky 90s-themed cereal bar outlet, and a Cuban coffee spot.

The management team consists of the principals, husband and wife duo Emilio and Jimena Dominguez, as well as Jimena’s brother, Rafael, taking over key operations and event coordination. The team is rounded out with newly hired bar manager Brice Castillo, Caleigh Cavert as the original Modern Rose’s GM, and culinary all-star couple Andrea Acuña and Gabriel de Garate taking the reins of the culinary program. They’re powered by a loyal and driven team of almost 20 other hospitality professionals who work tirelessly to build the foundation of this rapidly growing group. 

Emilio and Jimena’s vision began with exactly this in mind – to create a fun work environment where everyone is respected equally, rewarded based on merit, and a Ray Dalio-coined “idea meritocracy” where the best idea wins, no matter who it comes from. Their belief is that only in this type of an environment will they be able to accomplish sustained growth in a myriad of concepts and business models. Running an idea meritocracy takes time, targeted effort, and implementation of specific systems to support this approach. 

It worked. In less than three years, LoL Hospitality Group has led The Modern Rose to the following awards and accolades:

LoL accomplished all of this, while turning The Modern Rose from a financially-failing concept into a multi-million dollar enterprise, achieving over 1,200% growth during the pandemic, and receiving recognition from Travel + Leisure, Yahoo! and Business Insider, as well as local publications like Ft. Lauderdale Illustrated, Boca Magazine, Sun-Sentinel, US Reporter, TBT Magazine, VoyageMIA, GabTV, among others. It has served the likes of YouTube sensations, athletes, celebrities, Broadway stars, financial superstars, NFT/crypto millionaires, noted food bloggers from up and down the East Coast, and so many more. 

The Modern Rose’s second location is a joint venture with JC Hospitality Group in tourist destination Delray Beach. It is located inside of the main entrance of the newly built Delray Beach Market, Florida’s largest food hall and market. There, The Modern Rose has made another big impact by becoming the top vendor, some months even outselling the bar. Its following has exploded, leading the concept to begin expansion within the Delray Beach Market, building a lounge in the same style as the original Deerfield Beach location – antique, humble, and Victorian, all in one. They’ll be adding beer and wine and low-ABV cocktails to the inspired menu shortly. 

With requests to franchise coming in from all over the country, LoL is finalizing systems and procedures that will allow their Modern Rose concept to become a household name this decade. LoL is using the momentum from their hard-fought success to build these new concepts and make their mark on the sometimes tumultuous, but always glamorous, Florida restaurant scene.
