For decades, people have learned to adapt themselves to technology.

They learn new interfaces, adjust settings, change behaviors, and accept that the same product or digital experience will often be delivered to millions of people in essentially the same way.

Josh Kovacevic believes artificial intelligence creates an opportunity to reverse that relationship.

As the founder and CEO of AiSound, Inc., the company behind the upcoming consumer platform AuClair, Kovacevic is building around a straightforward philosophy: technology should increasingly understand and adapt to the individual rather than continually asking the individual to adapt to technology.

It is an idea shaped by a career that has taken him through medical devices and healthcare, consumer technology, product development, international manufacturing, and entrepreneurship before eventually leading him into artificial intelligence and personalized audio.

Today, Kovacevic believes the rapid advancement of AI could make individualized technology increasingly practical, and fundamentally change what consumers expect from the products and platforms they use.

Moving Beyond One-Size-Fits-All Technology

Technology has become remarkably good at understanding behavior.

Streaming platforms analyze listening histories to recommend music. E-commerce platforms predict what customers may purchase. Social platforms determine what content is likely to hold someone’s attention.

Much of today’s personalization, however, still focuses on predicting behavior.

Kovacevic sees an opportunity for something deeper.

As artificial intelligence advances, he believes technology can become increasingly capable of understanding differences between individuals and adapting experiences around them.

That distinction has become central to his work.

People are not one-size-fits-all, so their technology increasingly shouldn’t be either.

The principle may sound straightforward, but building technology around it presents a much more difficult challenge.

Kovacevic has spent years pursuing that challenge through AiSound, a technology company focused on personalized audio and individualized technology.

At the foundation of the company is patented intellectual property built around the belief that audio does not necessarily need to remain a standardized experience.

Why Audio Became the Starting Point

Audio offers a particularly interesting example of the limitations of one-size-fits-all technology.

People can have different listening preferences. Hearing itself can vary between individuals and even between a person’s ears. Some listeners also experience varying degrees of hearing differences.

Despite those differences, much of digital audio is still fundamentally delivered as though listeners experience sound in the same way.

He then built AiSound around the broader opportunity.

The company has spent years moving its technology from concept and intellectual property through development and toward commercialization. At the same time, Kovacevic has assembled an international organization spanning engineering, product, music, business and operations.

He has also raised millions in private capital to support that development.

But for Kovacevic, the work’s larger significance lies not simply in what AI can do with audio. It is what personalized audio may reveal about where technology is heading more broadly.

A More Human-Centered Vision for AI

Artificial intelligence is currently being discussed largely in terms of capability.

What can AI generate?

What jobs can it automate?

How much faster can it complete a task?

What industries might it disrupt?

Kovacevic believes those are important questions, but they represent only part of AI’s potential.

Another question is what increasingly intelligent technology can do for the individual person using it.

His view of AI is fundamentally human-centered.

Rather than seeing the technology primarily as a mechanism for replacing human activity, Kovacevic believes some of its most compelling applications may involve making existing experiences more personal, accessible, and useful.

In that future, AI does not necessarily remove the human element. It can potentially make technology better suited to the human using it.

For Kovacevic, this distinction matters.

Technology has historically required people to understand the machine. Increasingly intelligent technology creates the possibility that the machine can become better at understanding the person.

Personalization Beyond Recommendation

Music streaming provides a useful illustration of how that evolution could unfold.

The first major era of personalization focused heavily on recommendation.

Platforms became extraordinarily effective at analyzing behavior and answering questions such as which song, artist, or playlist a listener might enjoy next.

Kovacevic believes the next era could go considerably deeper.

Instead of personalization focusing exclusively on what someone wants, technology could become increasingly capable of understanding who is experiencing it.

Personalization should not stop at what you choose. It can extend to how you experience it.

That represents a different model of personalization.

Recommendation organizes the world around observed preferences. Individualization could potentially adapt the experience itself around differences between people.

Audio is where Kovacevic is currently pursuing that idea, but the philosophy behind AiSound extends beyond any single application.

As technology becomes more capable, Kovacevic believes consumers may increasingly expect products to understand them as individuals rather than treating millions or billions of users identically.

In that environment, personalization may eventually stop being viewed as a premium feature.

It could become an expectation.

Building the Idea Into a Company

Turning that philosophy into functioning technology has required years of development.

AiSound brought together intellectual property, artificial intelligence, software development, audio technology, consumer product development and the music industry, areas that each carry their own technical and commercial challenges.

Kovacevic’s earlier career helped shape his approach to that complexity.

His professional background spans healthcare and medical devices, product development, consumer technology, international manufacturing, entrepreneurship and business development.

Across those experiences, he encountered an idea that would eventually become central to AiSound: technology exists in the real world alongside people with different needs.

Building around those differences is considerably harder than designing for an average user.

But Kovacevic believes it can also create more meaningful technology.

His entrepreneurial experience has additionally taught him that developing something new rarely follows a straight path.

Products change. Assumptions are challenged. Teams evolve. New expertise changes how problems are understood.

Kovacevic describes the underlying lesson simply:

You can evolve the path without abandoning the vision.

For him, persistence is only part of building a meaningful company. Humility and adaptability matter as well.

Founders need conviction, but they also need to recognize when evidence requires change and surround themselves with people who understand parts of the problem better than they do.

Personalization and Accessibility

The pursuit of individualized technology may also have broader implications for accessibility.

People experience sound differently, including individuals with different hearing abilities. Kovacevic believes technology has the potential to create experiences that are more personally relevant while preserving the creativity, emotion, and connection that make music meaningful.

AiSound’s technology is not positioned as diagnosing, treating, or curing hearing loss or other medical conditions.

Instead, the company’s work centers on personalization, accessibility, and the potential for technology to better adapt experiences to individual listeners.

That distinction reflects Kovacevic’s larger view of innovation.

Meaningful technology should ultimately improve people’s lives.

Artificial intelligence, in his view, becomes particularly interesting when its increasing capabilities are directed toward that goal.

Bringing the Philosophy to Consumers

Kovacevic’s next chapter is beginning to emerge through AuClair, an upcoming consumer platform designed to bring AiSound’s broader philosophy of personalization into music.

Additional functionality and commercial details will be introduced as AuClair approaches launch.

What AuClair does represent publicly is the progression of an idea Kovacevic has spent years developing.

AiSound has moved from intellectual property and an original concept through technology and product development while building an international organization and relationships within the music industry.

AuClair is intended to bring that underlying philosophy closer to consumers.

At the same time, AiSound’s intellectual property has potential applications across the broader audio ecosystem.

The ambition, therefore, is larger than one product.

It is about participating in a broader shift in how technology interacts with people.

From Smart Technology to Individual Technology

The technological advances of the past several decades have largely been measured through computing power, connectivity, convenience and automation.

Kovacevic believes the coming years could add another dimension: individualization.

The question may gradually shift from whether technology is intelligent to whether that intelligence is capable of creating a better experience for the particular person using it.

For Kovacevic, that is one of the more optimistic possibilities surrounding artificial intelligence.

AI can automate.

It can generate.

It can analyze enormous amounts of information.

But it can also potentially make technology feel less standardized and more responsive to the individual.

After years spent developing patented technology, building AiSound and preparing AuClair for its next stage, Kovacevic expects personalization to become an increasingly important part of how consumers judge technology.

His philosophy ultimately comes down to a simple reversal of the relationship people have had with machines for generations:

The future isn’t people adapting to technology. It’s technology adapting to people.
