Microsoft, who lost to Google two decades ago in the battle for the world’s most popular search engine, is striving to come out on top in the AI race. And with the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, it is poised to regain its reputation as a cutting-edge company, but Google, arguably its biggest competitor, is not too far behind.Â
Bing with ChatGPT?
One of the buzziest and most exciting products in the AI today is ChatGPT, which is developed by OpenAI. And guess who just invested billions in them? Microsoft. The tech giant is investing $10 billion more into the organization on top of the $3 billion Microsoft already gave since 2019.Â
Now, more AI analysts and fans believe that Microsoft may soon add ChatGPT to its Bing search engine, potentially making it a real threat to Google’s search engine, which has long dominated the market. By integrating ChatGPT into its Bing search engine, Microsoft could potentially offer a more advanced and personalized search experience.
Microsoft’s investment into ChatGPT, which is one of OpenAI’s most exciting and promising products, could have significant implications for the company. ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool that can generate human-like responses to text-based conversations. By investing in ChatGPT, Microsoft is positioning itself as a leader in AI-powered chatbots and other conversational interfaces.
Investing billions into ChatGPT demonstrates the company’s commitment to staying at the forefront of AI research and development. It also shows that Microsoft is willing to invest heavily in promising AI technologies to compete with other tech giants in this rapidly evolving field.
Google Launches BARDÂ
Google may be a little late to the AI chatbot frenzy, but they did not disappoint. Compared to ChatGPT, whose knowledge database is limited to 2021 and cannot provide information about recent events, BARD can access current information.
Google BARD, like other chatbot AIs, is designed for conversational interactions. Users can interact with BARD by typing a query or request into a text box, and the AI will respond in a conversational tone.Â
Although not all of Bard’s capabilities are known, the chatbot claims to generate text, translate languages, write various types of creative content, and provide informative answers to users’ questions.Â
If users are not satisfied with Bard’s responses, they can click “Google it” to access Google Search for additional insight. Bard’s recent “Experiment updates” enhanced this feature to provide users with more search options based on their prompt if they want to explore further.
Bard also boasts the ability to create various forms of content, such as poems, scripts, musical pieces, emails, letters, and more. With a recent update, it can even generate code in over 20 different coding languages, including C++, Go, Java, Javascript, Python, and Typescript.
However, the vice president of Google Research maintains a cautious stance when promoting their own AI chatbot. He stated that the program can still fail at times despite BARD having filters to prevent it from sharing harmful, illegal, sexually explicit content and is programmed not to respond to offensive prompts.
Competition between Microsoft and Google in AI is a positive force for the tech industry. It drives innovation, provides consumers with more choices and lower prices, and leads to industry growth.Â
By pushing each other to develop new and better products, both companies contribute to advancing AI technology and its applications. As the competition between these tech giants continues to play out, we will likely see even more exciting developments in the field of AI in the years to come.
