Conor McGregor Made Headlines After Getting Into Scuffle With Machine Gun Kelly During the 2021 MTV VMAs

The MTV VMAs, an award show that honors the best in the music video medium, remains one of the most highly anticipated events in the entertainment scene. However, in recent years, much of this anticipation is less about the performances and the roster of stars that are set to grace the red carpet as viewers have come to realize that the annual gathering of the industry’s most prominent names rarely proceeds without controversy. This year, the controversy began before the show had even formally opened.

The altercation that broke out between Machine Gun Kelly and Conor McGregor is the latest addition to the long string of scandalous and controversial moments in the history of the VMAs, a list that features Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift back in 2009, Madonna kissing Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus twerking to Blurred Lines, and more. McGregor, the former two-division UFC champion, attended the event to present an award that ultimately went to Justin Bieber, while Machine Gun Kelly hit the Barclays Center to perform with Travis Barker. Bu even before the two could set foot on stage, videos that circulated on social media platforms showed the two in a verbal shouting match.

With the real deal about the scuffle still unclear, rumors have circulated online about what triggered the Irish MMA fighter to yell and move towards the singer, his team, and his girlfriend, Megan Fox. At one point, McGregor lunged forward with his walking cane, only to be restrained by security guards. After causing the disturbance, both Kelly and McGregor stayed for the remaining leg of the show.

Following the conclusion of the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards, the MMA pro made it clear that despite being familiar with Megan Fox and her work as an actress and model, he had no relationship with the rockstar. “I don’t know. He showed up, and I don’t know. I don’t know the guy,” he said. “Nothing happened to me, I only fight real fighters, people that actually fight, you know what I mean. I certainly don’t fight little Vanilla Ice rappers. I don’t even know the guy. I don’t know anything about him, except that he’s with Megan Fox.”

Conor McGregor is currently rehabilitating a leg that suffered a serious injury in a faceoff against Dustin Poirier, a trilogy fight that—interestingly enough—Kelly attended with Fox on July 10 at T-Mobile Arena. On his next fight, he plans to invite Kelly and Fox to join in on the fun. “All love. It’s all good. Come to the next fight. Come watch me perform any time. I’ll perform, no problem. Everyone is more than welcome to my fights, to the shows,” he shared.

Meanwhile, the singer and his representatives have kept mum on the issue, batting away microphones when asked about what occurred. The day after bagging the “Best Alternative Video” award, he was seen dining with Megan Fox and his friends Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian.
