Buffalo, aptly named the “City of Good Neighbors”, prides itself on its tight-knit community and unwavering spirit of camaraderie. The GR8 Elite Ducks, embodying this ethos, have stood as pillars of strength, leadership, and transformation in Buffalo. Just as essential to this narrative is the Clover Group, a silent guardian and a stalwart supporter of Buffalo’s communal spirit for over three decades.

The Gr8 Elite Ducks (formerly the Beast Elite Ducks) have been more than just a youth football team – they are a beacon of hope, resilience, and community spirit. From their humble beginnings to winning a national title in 2019, the team has continually showcased the transformative power of sports in molding young minds. This impact extends beyond the field, with 150 inner-city Buffalo boys, ages six-to-12, actively participating in the GR8 Elite Ducks program. Run by Be Elite Inc., a not-for-profit charity, the program is not just about football; it’s a comprehensive mentorship initiative. It provides conflict resolution skills to youths aged 8-15 and offers free financial coaching for Buffalo-area adults through its “Building Greatness” programs. This multi-faceted approach by Be Elite Inc. and the Gr8 Elite Ducks reflects a deep commitment to nurturing and empowering individuals and families in the Buffalo community, fostering a cycle of growth and positivity.

Clover Group: A Legacy of Community Commitment:

Incepted in 1987, the Clover Group was founded with a distinct and noble vision: to forge housing solutions for middle-income seniors that weren’t just residences, but homes. Over three decades, their relentless commitment has been evident in the thriving communities they’ve nurtured. While their primary focus remains on developing senior housing, their philosophy transcends it. For Clover Group, every brick laid, every community crafted, is a testament to their values of inclusivity, sustainability, and community welfare. Their longstanding history in Buffalo isn’t marked merely by constructions but by the lives enriched and communities fortified.

The Clover Group’s dedication to Buffalo has been unwavering. By highlighting initiatives like their support for the GR8 Elite Ducks and other local causes, they’ve exhibited their unwavering commitment to Buffalo’s well-being. In essence, while many organizations may come and go, the Clover Group stands out as a true guardian, always ready to uphold Buffalo’s ethos of unity and compassion.

The GR8 Elite Ducks: Beyond the Game:

Despite their triumphs, adversity struck when vital equipment was stolen. Three years ago, the GR8 Elite Ducks’ field house faced adversity when vandals broke in, causing significant water damage and theft of football equipment and jerseys. However, this setback became an opportunity for unity and support within the tight-knit Buffalo community. However, echoing Buffalo’s spirit, support swiftly poured in from every corner, especially from allies like the Clover Group led by CEO Mike Joseph who took action immediately.

After seeing a story on Buffalo TV news about the field house break-in, Mike Joseph reached out directly to Kenya Peoples to offer his help. Together, they determined the replacement cost for the equipment and jerseys to be $75,000. Mike Joseph, along with the Clover Group, generously donated $30,000, while West Herr Auto Group, a reputable Buffalo-based car dealership, added another $30,000 to the cause. Kenya Peoples and the GR8 Elite team showed their dedication by raising $15,000 through successful fundraising efforts. Additionally, the Buffalo City Council demonstrated strong support by contributing over $10,000 towards the initiative. Together, these collective efforts exemplify the heartwarming collaboration of individuals and organizations coming together for a common purpose.

Kenya Peoples was truly inspired by the`support in response to the unfortunate event. When asked about situation Kenya promptly stated:

“GR8 Elite Ducks and I can’t thank Mike Joseph and Clover Group enough for their continued generosity,” said Kenya Peoples. “They were there for us when we needed them most and they’re still there for us.” – Kenya Peoples.

The adversity faced by the GR8 Elite Ducks, marked by the theft and vandalism of their field house, turned into a compelling narrative of community strength and unity. The swift and generous response from various corners of the Buffalo community, including significant contributions from the Clover Group led by Mike Joseph, West Herr Auto Group, and the Buffalo City Council, not only addressed the immediate needs of the team but also reinforced the power of collective action. It is a testament to the enduring spirit of the Buffalo community, where solidarity and generosity triumph in the face of challenges, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those involved and inspiring many more.

Clover Group, A Silent Guardian, Steps Forward

In these trying times, Buffalo’s very own Clover Group stepped up to the plate. A representative from Clover Group reflected, “Seeing those young players’ dreams put on hold was heartbreaking. We knew we had to act.” And they did, generously donating $35,000, covering half of the total equipment replacement costs. Further showcasing their dedication, they also shouldered $5,000 for the Ducks’ trip to a Long Island tournament, asking for nothing in return – not even publicity.

At the helm of Clover Group’s community endeavors stands Allison Pendleton, the COO, whose roots in Buffalo offer her a unique and heartfelt perspective on the city’s communal spirit. “Buffalo isn’t just a city; it’s a city of dreams, hopes, and unparalleled community spirit,” Allison reflected. Her deep-seated connection to Buffalo, having witnessed its ups and downs, has given her an intimate understanding of the significance of sports and community organizations. Recognizing the setbacks faced by the GR8 Elite Ducks, she saw more than a team in distress; she saw a community’s dream on the verge of being deferred. With unwavering determination, she steered Clover Group’s support towards the Ducks, embodying the very essence of Buffalo – solidarity.

Allison’s passion for Buffalo and its community resonates deeply. It’s not just about philanthropy; it’s about recognizing the intrinsic value of every individual, every initiative, and understanding the larger picture they form together. Allison believes that when one helps uplift a single group, like the GR8 Elite Ducks, the ripple effect it creates benefits the entire community. Her actions, backed by Clover Group’s resources, stand as a shining testament to the belief that while challenges are inevitable, with unity and determination, any obstacle can be surmounted.

A Symbol of Resilience and Community Spirit

In a world crippled by a pandemic, GR8 Elite emerged as a beacon of hope. The organization amalgamated players and coaches from various Buffalo-based little league groups, ensuring the continuation of the sport at no added cost to parents. This endeavor, more than just keeping the sport alive, served as a pillar of support and hope amidst trying times.

The Gr8 Elite Ducks aren’t just about football. It’s about mentorship, camaraderie, and resilience. In an interview with NBC WGRZ Lawanda Deas, a parent of two players, shared a spotlight on this, “Every day, my 6-year-old rushes to practice with a wide grin. I attribute his growth and happiness to the coaches.” The program’s influence extends far beyond the field. It boasts of nurturing talents who’ve not only excelled in high school but have also secured spots in D1 college football.

The global crisis couldn’t deter the GR8 Elite Ducks. Merging players from various little league groups, they ensured football remained accessible without burdening parents. This wasn’t solely about sports; it was a beacon of hope, solidifying the belief that community spirit could overcome any challenge.

Clover Group’s support was the silver lining, but the Buffalo community’s spirit has always been the wind beneath the Ducks’ wings. From local businesses to individual volunteers, many have rallied behind this team, proving that when a community comes together, even the gravest challenges can be overcome.

Mentor, Coach, Pillar: Kenya Peoples

Kenya Peoples, more affectionately known in the Buffalo community as “Coach K,” stands as a monumental figure behind the GR8 Elite Ducks. But his influence stretches far beyond the football field.

Having attended Bilingual Academy School #76 in Buffalo and later graduating from City Honors and Buffalo State College, Coach K’s roots run deep within the city’s confines. Drawing inspiration from his own life, especially the unwavering support of his single mother, Kenya has channeled his experiences into molding the youth of Buffalo.

Douglas Hunt, vice president of the GR8 Elite Ducks, sums it up in an interview with NBC2 WGRZ, “There aren’t too many people that are in little league football that care about the well being of the kids outside of football as much as he does.” Coach K’s approach intertwines life lessons with football strategies. “Football is not just about the X’s and O’s. It’s about resilience, integrity, teamwork, and respect,” he often says, highlighting his vision of using sport as a tool to impart broader life lessons.

In 2022, Coach K pioneered the mentoring program called “Building GR8ness.” Meeting weekly for 12 sessions with approximately 40 children, he’s carved out a space where young minds can thrive, feel supported, and get guidance. “It’s about giving that one opportunity, that spark, to help a child reach new heights,” Kenya emphasizes, encapsulating his drive.

As a single father to his 14-year-old son, Christopher, Coach K’s life is a testament to determination, resilience, and commitment. “Everything I do is for him,” he shares, reflecting the sentiment of not just providing for his child, but also setting an example of perseverance and community service.

“The dedication of Clover Group and Mike Joseph to the communities and kids of Buffalo is unparalleled,” – Kenya Peoples.
