The author of The Conscious Pugilist believes modern society is facing a crisis of distraction, overstimulation, and disconnection from self.

Every generation faces a defining challenge.

Some generations faced war.

Others faced economic collapse.

According to author and entrepreneur C.A. Victor, the defining challenge of modern society may be something far less obvious:

Attention.

“We’re constantly being fed information, opinions, entertainment, and advertisements,” Victor says. “What we focus on shapes how we experience reality.”

While attention has always been valuable, Victor believes it has become one of the most contested resources in human history. Social media platforms, advertising networks, streaming services, news organizations, political campaigns, and technology companies all compete for the same thing: human focus.

And in Victor’s view, many people underestimate the consequences.

The Age of Overstimulation

Victor describes modern life as one of the most overstimulated periods humanity has ever experienced.

Notifications arrive every minute.

News updates never stop.

Algorithms continuously serve content designed to capture attention and maximize engagement.

As a result, many people find themselves mentally exhausted despite living in an era of unprecedented convenience.

“The human mind wasn’t designed to process this much input every waking hour,” Victor says.

Ironically, he points out that many societies are statistically safer and more prosperous than previous generations, yet anxiety, overwhelm, and dissatisfaction remain widespread.

In his view, the issue isn’t necessarily the amount of information available.

It’s the inability to create distance from it.

Why Consciousness Matters

Much of Victor’s work centers around a concept he calls “witness consciousness.”

The idea was heavily influenced by his spiritual studies and books such as The Untethered Soul, which emphasizes the distinction between thoughts and awareness.

“I believe there are levels to consciousness,” Victor explains. “You are not your thoughts. You are the awareness observing them.”

For Victor, self-awareness begins when people learn to observe their thoughts rather than automatically identify with them.

That distinction may sound simple, but he believes it changes everything.

It affects relationships.

Decision-making.

Emotional regulation.

Leadership.

Even personal happiness.

The Battle Between Ego and Awareness

One of the central themes explored throughout The Conscious Pugilist Anthology Vol. One is the relationship between ego and consciousness.

Victor does not believe the ego is inherently bad.

Instead, he sees it as a tool that requires balance.

“The ego isn’t the enemy,” he says. “The problem comes when it takes control and begins making decisions without wisdom, perspective, or accountability.”

In a culture increasingly driven by validation metrics, social media engagement, and personal branding, Victor believes many people unknowingly allow their sense of identity to become dependent on external approval.

That dependence creates instability.

Because anything that can be given by others can also be taken away.

Why Social Media Concerns Him

Victor is not anti-technology.

Nor is he anti-social media.

However, he believes many people underestimate how powerfully these platforms influence perception.

“Social media is designed to keep you engaged,” he says. “It gives you more of what makes you feel good.”

He compares excessive content consumption to comfort food.

Pleasant in moderation.

Potentially harmful in excess.

That realization led Victor to step away from social media for extended periods while writing and developing the book.

The result, he says, was greater clarity, focus, and self-awareness.

The Future of AI and Human Thinking

Victor also believes artificial intelligence presents a unique challenge.

Not because the technology itself is dangerous.

But because of the possibility that people may stop thinking for themselves.

“Every tool can be used to help or harm,” he says. “My concern is that people may outsource critical thinking, creativity, and self-reflection without realizing it.”

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into everyday life, Victor believes awareness and intentional thinking will become more valuable, not less.

The people who remain curious, thoughtful, and self-aware may ultimately have the greatest advantage.

The Conscious Pugilist Philosophy

These ideas eventually became the foundation of The Conscious Pugilist Anthology Vol. One.

The book explores ego, awareness, trauma, culture, relationships, power, spirituality, and personal growth through layered storytelling, symbolism, poetry, and narrative experimentation.

But Victor insists the goal is not to tell readers what to think.

Quite the opposite.

He wants them to think for themselves.

“Many people are afraid to challenge the beliefs of their own tribe,” he says. “Some of the most important conversations begin when we’re willing to ask ourselves, ‘What if I’m wrong?’”

Why This Conversation Matters

Victor believes modern culture has become increasingly polarized, distracted, and reactive.

Yet he remains optimistic.

He sees a growing number of people searching for meaning, authenticity, and deeper understanding.

“People are searching for meaning beneath the surface,” he says.

That search, he believes, may ultimately lead many individuals back to the most important relationship they’ll ever have.

The relationship with themselves.

Before people can understand the world around them, they must first understand the person looking back at them in the mirror.

And according to C.A. Victor, that is where the real fight begins.
