“AI won’t replace the human worker. But the human who doesn’t understand AI will be replaced by someone who does,” says Dr. Carol A. Palmer, President of Amberton University

With that guiding belief, Amberton University has positioned itself as an AI-literate campus in the United States; a bold move grounded in academic responsibility, practical execution, and student relevance.

A University-Wide Shift to AI Literacy

Starting with the 2025–2026 academic year, every course at Amberton now integrates artificial intelligence (AI) competencies. From Finance to Counseling, students learn to use AI tools ethically and effectively within their fields.

This significant initiative involved revising all courses and launching new AI-focused programs and degrees.

One of the new programs is Amberton’s Master of Science in Applied Artificial Intelligence. This practicum-style degree is designed to prepare students for roles such as AI strategists, ethics advisors, and operations leaders, focusing on real-world applications and culminating in a portfolio project intended for potential employers.

“This is not about building AI,” Dr. Palmer explains. “It’s about using AI to improve how you work, think, and lead.”

Practical AI Literacy Across Disciplines

Amberton University’s approach to AI literacy emphasizes practical application. For instance, students in Healthcare learn about AI’s role in patient data analytics, while Counseling students explore AI-assisted assessments balanced with ethical considerations. Business students examine AI’s impact on communication, operations, and financial strategies.

Each course now outlines specific AI-related skills students are expected to acquire, enabling them to build a portfolio of competencies relevant to today’s job market. As Dr. Palmer notes, employers increasingly value practical skills alongside academic credentials.

Designed for Working Adults

Amberton University has long prioritized the unique needs of mature, working adults who seek to further their education while managing the many demands of daily life. Recognizing that balancing full-time employment, family responsibilities, and other personal commitments can present significant challenges, Amberton has developed academic programs and services specifically tailored to support this student population.

To accommodate busy schedules, Amberton offers multiple 10-week academic terms throughout the year, allowing students to start their courses at several points rather than being confined to traditional semester dates. This scheduling flexibility helps students progress at a pace that suits their lifestyle and commitments, providing the opportunity to accelerate or pause their studies as needed.

The university also maintains a commitment to affordability and transparency in tuition pricing. Amberton provides clear information about costs and offers options such as pay-as-you-go plans, employer tuition assistance, military education benefits, and federal financial aid.

A Modern Ethos Rooted in Accountability and Ethics

Amberton’s institutional size and structure allow for nimble adoption of new academic initiatives like AI literacy. The university introduced numerous new courses, degrees, and certificates to reflect evolving industry needs.

As a nondenominational Christian institution, Amberton weaves strong ethical principles into its curriculum and use of AI, emphasizing responsible and thoughtful application of technology.

Preparing Students for Today’s Workforce

Amberton University’s comprehensive integration of AI competencies reflects a commitment to practical education, innovation, and student-centered policies. With a focus on real-world preparation and flexible learning models, Amberton offers an educational path aligned with the demands of the current workforce.

“AI isn’t the future,” Dr. Palmer says. “It’s the present. And we’re ready.”
