Powerhouses across all sectors are, almost always, motivated by more than just the vision of securing a financially stable future. Many of them share the goal of driving change, making a difference, and blazing the trail for others. Wendy Turner Miller, the president and CEO of Superior Innovative Solutions, LLC, is one such industry leader. Their efforts are grounded in a mission that goes beyond seeing large numbers. A highly inspirational fempreneur, she is living proof that women can conquer any space they want to.
Recently recognized by the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) at its 50th Anniversary conference as one of “The Fast 50: Top Growing MBEs,” Wendy Turner Miller is an accomplished barrister and entrepreneur. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and graduated from the Howard University School of Law.
Before dipping her toes in the waste management sector, Wendy made history in the legal arena as one of the very first women of color to hold the coveted position of chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee for the Eastern District of Michigan. Right now, the purpose-driven figure is making her mark by launching a company in a male-dominated field.
A waste and environmental cleaning forerunner, Superior Innovative Solutions (SIS) started as an automotive cleaning agency in 2018, bringing to the table 40 years of the combined expertise of its highly capable team. Its authority covers several areas, including industrial waste management, construction and project management services, industrial paint shop design, fabrication installation, and total booth management.
Over time, Superior Innovative Solutions has managed to build a solid reputation, earning the patronage of a long list of high-profile clients, such as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota, and more. During the outbreak of COVID-19, it was able to cement its position even further, thanks to the acumen of Wendy Miller, who pivoted at once and said, “Let’s become experts at COVID cleaning.”
Today, apart from serving as the go-to provider of total waste management, industrial cleaning, industrial staffing, and licensed safety training services, Superior Innovative Solutions is also considered an expert in Coronavirus cleaning and disinfection.
Considering that Wendy began a career in a field entirely different from the waste management sector, her rise in the industry naturally triggered the question of what prompted the career change. “It’s my children,” she answered. “I wanted a way to leave a legacy for them. I cannot leave them my degrees or my law practice, but waste management is a never-ending business.”
The fervor evident in her professional life runs deep, as well, in Wendy’s personal one. An avid community servant and an active member of the service organizations Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and The Links Incorporated, the barrister is setting an example for other women to follow through her bold moves in the waste management industry. “I take risks and push forward knowing that I’m working for more than just myself,” she shared. “I want to challenge women to think like that, think outside of the traditional box.”
