Everyone loves to walk out of their homes to a lush green yard. To maintain a beautiful landscape, you need some tools, especially the lawn mower. However, how do you determine what type of lawn mower is perfect for your yard? Here are seven points to consider when choosing a lawn mower to meet your needs.

Meet the Mowers

There are several types of mowers. The common is the reel motor, otherwise known as the push mower. It operates on human power. They are great for small-medium yards with fine grasses. They are quiet and safe for the environment.

Electric mowers are available with and without a cord, but both require electricity. They are more suited for a smaller lawn.

Gasoline-powered mowers are another option. They are powerful and can tackle larger yards with thick, tall grasses.

Stand-on mowers are for large properties and commercial landscaping. They are powerful and suitable for grass types.

Determine Your Grass Type and Yard Size

The type of grass will help to determine the lawn mower you need. Cool-season grasses, for example, Kentucky Bluegrass, prefer to be higher, while warm-season grasses thrive  when cut short.

Yard size is a factor. A push mower or electric mower would be appropriate for a small plot. However, a riding mower is ideal for an acre or more land.

Think About the Extra Features

When considering your lawn mower, think about its features and accessories. For example, do you want a bag to catch your clippings? Do you want to make the lines you see on professionally groomed lawns? You will need a rear roller to create the effect.

Research the Environmental Effect

Are you environmentally conscious and trying to keep your carbon footprint low? The push mower is the environmentally friendly of all the mowers. The electric mover is the next option. Mowers that use gas are the least environmentally friendly.

Determine Your Budget

Besides features, accessories, and the environment, your budget plays a role in determining the type of mower that is right for you. The push and electric mowers will be easier on the wallet. Next would be the gas mower, and the riding mower is expensive. However, look at your mower as being an investment. Which mower would be the  economical and meet your lawn care needs?

Consider the Proper Storage

Where are you planning to store your mower? Gas and riding mowers will need room. They need a place that is safe for storing their fuel and ventilated. The push and electric mowers are easy to store. They fit in smaller spaces, and there is no need to worry about proper ventilation or fuel storage.

Factor In the Maintenance Needs

Keep in mind the amount of maintenance your mower will need. Blades will need to be cleaned and sharpened. A gas mower will need oil, filer, and spark plug changes. A battery-operated mower will need a new battery. Knowing the amount of maintenance for each type of mower will help you determine which is right for you.
