When Vincent Iacopella looks back on his career, he doesn’t see a straight line. Instead, he sees a series of risks, pivots, and lessons that shaped him into the leader he is today: one who balances entrepreneurial creativity with operational discipline, and financial growth with purpose-driven impact.

Raised with a strong sense of resilience and adaptability, Iacopella has always been willing to chart unconventional paths. That willingness to take chances has carried him from the early days of his career into his current role as Executive Vice President of Growth and Strategy at Alba Wheels Up, where he oversees expansion, compliance-driven customer solutions, and innovation in one of the complex industries in the world: global logistics.

The Early Lessons: Agility and Curiosity

From the start, Iacopella believed in the value of curiosity. “I’ve always tried to learn from everyone I meet,” he says. In his twenties and thirties, he made it a point to study not only the technical aspects of his work but also the commercial impact of emerging challenges and opportunities on U.S. importers and exporters. Also of interest was the the human side of complex relationships: how leaders motivated teams, how organizations adapted under pressure, and how industries evolved.

One of his biggest challenges during that period was learning how to balance vision with execution. “I was full of ideas, but I had to work hard to align those ideas with organizational realities,” he recalls. “Great ideas don’t mean much unless you can implement them in a way that creates lasting value for your company and customers.

It was in his thirties, he admits, that the most significant personal growth took place. “That was when I had to learn how to put structure around creativity. It wasn’t easy, but it was essential.”

Breaking Away from Conventional Paths

Unlike many executives who climb corporate ladders methodically, Iacopella often took the less obvious route. His willingness to take risks—stepping into leadership roles, advocating for trade modernization, or pushing for investment in new technologies—set him apart.

“I was less risk-averse than some of my peers,” he says. “That doesn’t mean reckless. It means recognizing when the safe option is really the riskier one, because it locks you into outdated systems.”

That mindset proved invaluable during moments of industry upheaval, whether navigating changes in customs regulations or responding to global supply chain shocks. Where others hesitated, Iacopella leaned into the uncertainty and sought opportunity.

Shaping Policy, Not Just Responding to It

One defining period of his career was serving as Co-Chair of the U.S. Customs Operations Advisory Committee (COAC) from 2015 to 2018. In that role, Iacopella wasn’t just reacting to regulations: he was helping shape them.

“Too often, industry leaders see compliance as a box-checking exercise,” he explains. “But I’ve always believed the private sector should help shape policy in ways that balance enforcement with practicality. That’s how you create systems that actually work.”

His involvement in advisory boards and trade forums reinforced his reputation as not only a practitioner but also a thought leader —someone trusted to navigate both the business and policy aspects of logistics.

Why His Journey Matters Now

Today, as global trade faces extraordinary challenges, Iacopella’s unconventional journey feels especially relevant. Leaders are being asked to do more than hit quarterly targets: they’re being asked to build resilient, ethical, and transparent systems. That requires not just technical expertise, but also creativity, agility, and vision.

It’s no coincidence that Iacopella’s nonprofit regulatory advocacy centers on these same themes. By promoting responsible sourcing, transparency in compliance, and collaboration between the private and public sectors, he is working to ensure that trade benefits not only shareholders but also society at large.

“Trade is one of the powerful forces in the world,” he says.  it can lift communities and create opportunities. That’s what drives me.”

The Journey Ahead

Looking ahead, Iacopella is focused on what he calls “hard work, hard play, hard rest.” To him, success means more than financial results. It means living fully, building impact, and making space for the things that truly matter.

“I want to continue scaling businesses, but also scaling purpose,” he reflects. “That means building supply chains that are not only more efficient, but also more thoughtful. It means investing in the next generation of leaders. And it means staying focused on why we do this—to create meaningful impact and improve lives.”

It’s that blend of vision and pragmatism, risk-taking and responsibility, that defines Vincent Iacopella’s journey. And it’s what makes his leadership not just impressive, but necessary, in a world where the future of trade, and the people it serves, hangs in the balance.
