The Supreme Court has upheld a ban on abortion in all cases on Friday, overturning the Roe V. Wade decision that has been in place for nearly 50 years. The decision was met with divided opinions as pro-life supporters celebrated, but many others around the world expressed their anger at this new sunrise towards stricter limitations on women’s rights to choose what happens with their bodies.
This is a huge setback for women’s reproductive rights and could lead to an increase in states passing harsh anti-abortion laws..
Major brands and companies with headquarters in Republican-controlled states moved quickly to assure their employees that they will be financially supported for any trips taken outside their home state as a result of this new law.
Below are some major companies offering assistance to their staff.
Apple
An Apple spokesperson revealed that the company offers employees a benefits package which includes medical care coverage. This means they can travel out of state for treatment if it isn’t available in their home state.
Bumble
The dating app company announced its support for employees’ access to the healthcare services they need, including abortion.
A spokesperson said Bumble would be donating money towards two major organizations that provide affordable and legal reproductive choice: The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas as well as Planned Parenthood Federation America.
Disney
Disney is committed to providing its employees with the best benefits possible. The company offers medical care, family planning and pregnancy-related decisions through insurance or other programs.
Meta
As one of the biggest brands today, Meta offers travel expense reimbursement for employees seeking out-of-state health care and reproductive services.
“We are in the process of assessing how best to do so given the legal complexities involved,” a Meta spokesperson said in a statement.
Microsoft
Microsoft extended its financial support for critical healthcare to include travel expenses related with gender-affirming care and abortion when the draft of an executive order that could potentially overturn Roe v. Wade was leaked.
Netflix
Netflix offers a lifetime allowance of $10,000 for its employees and their dependents. The streaming company also provides travel reimbursement to those traveling across the state dealing with any reproductive health issues surrounding an abortion/gender confirming surgery.
Nike
The company is committed to providing its employees with accessible and affordable healthcare services. For that reason, it will cover travel expenses so they can access the necessary treatment for any medical need without worrying about how much it will cost them out-of-pocket.
“No matter where our teammates are on their family planning journey – from contraception and abortion to coverage, to pregnancy and family-building support through fertility, surrogacy, and adoption benefits – we are here to support their decisions.”
